Lon Babby concentrates in sports law and negotiations. Having practiced sports law at Williams & Connolly LLP for 25 years, Mr. Babby has established a groundbreaking practice. Mr. Babby was intimately involved in the firm’s representation of the Washington Redskins (1977-1980) and the Baltimore Orioles (1979-1994), first as Club Counsel then as General Counsel. As General Counsel for the Orioles, he was substantially responsible for a wide range of legal matters, including player contract negotiations, advertising and marketing contracts, labor issues, stadium issues (including those involving the construction and development of Oriole Park at Camden Yards), and general business matters.

Currently, Mr. Babby represents Grant Hill, Ray Allen, Tim Duncan, Shane Battier, Chamique Holdsclaw, and dozens of other NBA first round draft choices and WNBA “marquee” players, and other professional athletes, including Rickie Weeks, the second pick in baseball's 2003 amateur draft. In representing these athletes in their player and contract negotiations, licensing negotiations, business structuring, and other matters, he distinguishes himself from traditional “agents” by charging on an hourly fee basis rather than a percentage of income basis. He is certified as an agent by the National Basketball Players Association, Women’s National Basketball Players Association and Major League Baseball Players Association.

In addition, he represents numerous members of the media in their contract negotiations with various broadcasting companies.

Mr. Babby has also served as an adjunct professor of law at the George Washington University Law School, teaching a course in Sports Law. He is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
